We Give God a Bad Name

I just finished watching the documentary about the fall of Hillsong church. What a horrible and tragic period, and it’s not the first where bad things have been done in God’s name – The deadly crusades of the medieval period is far the worse but how many other times we have failed Him.

I found myself feeling ashamed of my beliefs, my background, other Christians. I then imagined how much more it must grieve God.

I then was reminded of the movie I watched last night, Welcome to Happiness (2016), which shows how people with past sins and regrets could magically disappear and come back through a magical door, and how its pagan symbolism and Wiccan rituals are cultural accepted moreso than is the maligned Christianity of today.

I imagine God does more than shake His head while the enemy delights in our confusion.

As I type this up, my heart overflows with compassion for the myriad pain we all live in to their unique degree, and hope the lesson I’ve learned from the juxtaposed media lessons is to not look to the wrong places for validation.
