We feel like our body is ours and it is our right to do with it as we please.
And we have, much to our chagrin.
We are unhealthier than ever.
I will speak for myself in saying that I can have pretty much anything I want, and I am not in the bodily form the Lord would have me to be.
Can we have too much?
Paul reminds us that our freedom can enslave us. Whether it be food, power, or sex, I find that I can easily be lured into the illusion that more is better.
We can use these things to give us comfort. For example, a prostitute provides a
relief initially but ultimately leads to denigration for both parties.
Yet the world demands that these are the things that will satisfy us.
I have tried so many false promises and they did provide pleasure and release from the mundane – made me feel important, but the road always led to the same place.
Defeat.
I found what nourishes doesn’t steal.
My freedom found in the price Jesus paid with his body.
