This is Heman’s reflection on the death of the sons of Korah, who tested the Lord and lost.
I learn I am like Heman, who cries out to God throughout the day, and at night, when the Lord arouses me.
Our prayers put us in the presence of God.
I wonder sometimes if I didn’t seek God, would He know who I was – would He care?
Heman is getting older, feeling like a shadow of his old self, and closer to the grave than birth.
I can relate. I am in a similar life stage.
Heman feels separated. Isolated. Even shunned by his friends. He feels lost and forlorn.
Oh, how I can relate.
He brings up the question of whether God remembers us in death. I never thought of that. I just always have assumed what he questions.
We will see, Your Holiness.
We will praise you.
We will know your love.
Sometimes we find ourselves in a place where we feel abandoned, unseen by God. Our prayers feel unheard.
Heman was grieved by God’s wrath on Korah’s sons. Even in his wisdom. He was wracked with fear and guilt.
There is healthy fear of the Lord.
He is in control.
