The Lord has laid out the big picture in the Bible, as well as our individual struggles in the form of stories. A good story connects with the reader and we take and learn from what meshes with our needs and experience.
In addition, the Bible makes predictions.
This passage is confusing, as sometimes happens with metaphorization of the unfamiliar. Party Town, Ephraim, is going to be overtaken with God’s blessing because of their gross overindulgence and lack of respect for themselves and their surroundings. They have turned away from God, and religion has become merely repetition and ritual.
Their delight has turned from the Lord. The God who delivered them to such rich a land as He gave them, and they waste their lives in carnal and hedonistic ways, drowning out the voice of God.
God wants us to enjoy life. He wants us to live a good one, but he also
wants to be the center of it as our joy, our comfort, our leader.
