Oh, the great price paid for our salvation.
My salvation is something I try to keep in my mind.
Why did God have to have a sacrifice?
I’m not really sure, but I think of it like laundry. We clean our clothes in a way so we can tolerate them. When I put on dirty, even just worn clothes, I just feel… yuck.
I think God feels that way about our sin and they are cleansed in the sacrifice of Jesus.
Prior to Jesus, God needed for us to wash our clothes, our sins, often through sacrifices. Jesus’ new fabric doesn’t require regular washing – just the purchase and care of it.
Jesus took away the undesirous sacrifice, sacrificing himself because it was God’s will. He ushers in the new covenant or promise and a way to return to him. This eliminates the distasteful cost of the animal blood ritual of the first covenant.
Jesus’ sacrifice is perfected forever, and the Holy Spirit lives inside to perfect us, in order for us to join their reign forever.
Amazing, really.
