If you don’t know this story, Daniel tells Belshazzar, he is doomed.
This is the source of the saying, “The writing is on the wall,” and means you’ve been warned.
Could Belshazzar have changed his destiny?
Belshazzar did not believe in the one God, and he relied on his Pagan prophets to interpret the writing on the wall. Failing, they brought Daniel, who shunned Belshazzar’s gifts, but told him that he, like his father, believed his own hype. That he believed himself infallible and his prideful ways were ripe for a fall. And God had to take away his power because of this but also due to his lack of recognition to God, the supplier.
God sent Belshazzar a clear message and a clear interpretation.
Belshazzar honored Daniel for his in interpretation, but we don’t know if his heart was changed.
Would history have been different if Belshazzar could humble himself and listen? Or was it just too late?
All we know is that very night Belshazzar was killed by the people whom God had sent up to remove and replace his decadent and corrupt kingdom.
Is the writing on the wall for us?
